Baroque Blog

The Baroque era was time where paintings depicted a lot of real life objects and people. The paintings in this period also used darker colors. The Baroque era lasted from 1600-1750.

This painting is Fruit and Insects by Rachel Ruysch. Rachel lived in Amsterdam so she was heavily influence by royalty. Her paintings were given to Medici in Italy and bought by wealthy families that lived in England.

I like how much detail was put into this painting. I also liked how she was able to make the fruit and insects in this painting look like they do in real life. She was able to use shading to create the different shades of the fruit and shadowing to create the shadows under the butterfly and lizard. I think this painting is really interesting but I don't think I would ever have this painting in my house.
